According to undisclosed sources, Pakistan's intelligence agency, the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), allegedly orchestrated the assassination of terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar in Canada with the intent of straining relations between India and Canada.
These sources suggest that the ISI may have enlisted criminals to carry out the killing and had been pressuring Nijjar to support criminal elements who had recently arrived in Canada. However, Nijjar was reportedly more aligned with former Khalistani leaders.
Additionally, it is believed that the ISI is now in search of a replacement for Nijjar and is preparing to rally pro-Khalistan terrorists in Canada.
The situation escalated diplomatically when Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau accused Indian agents of potential involvement in Nijjar's June 18th murder in British Columbia. In response, India rejected these claims as "absurd" and "motivated." India also announced the temporary suspension of visa issuance to Canadian citizens and requested Ottawa to reduce its diplomatic presence in the country.
Furthermore, during the 78th UN General Assembly session, India urged United Nations member states not to let "political convenience" dictate their responses to terrorism, extremism, and violence. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar emphasized the importance of respecting territorial integrity and avoiding interference in internal affairs, stating that selective agendas set by a few nations are no longer acceptable.
